Looking After Your Surgical Scar

Two weeks after surgery your scar should be healing, but it can take from six weeks to three months before you’re fully healed. There are some things you can do during the healing process to help improve the appearance of your scar:

  • Always keep your scar clean. Wash the area under running tap water, saline (a salt water solution) or use an alcohol-free wipe.*

  • Avoid too much exposure to the sun. Scar tissue is very sensitive, this makes it very easy for scars to get sunburnt.**

  • Extremes of temperature can make itchy scars worse particularly heat so avoid very hot baths or showers.**

  • Applying a silicone gel such as KELO-COTE® Advanced formula to a healed cut will keep the wound hydrated and prevent it from drying out.

KELO-COTE® Scar Treatment

KELO-COTE® gel is an advanced formula silicone treatment for the management and prevention of scars. It helps soften, flatten and smooth raised scars whilst maintaining the moisture balance and elasticity of the skin.
